WBLCD: Preserving White Bear Lake for future generations

The MNDNR Aquatic Invasive Species Program requests your help in monitoring the zebra mussel population of White Bear Lake! THis fall, as boatlifts are removed from the lake, we are asking residents to count zebra mussels. This effort is a part of a long-term study of zebra mussels which includes annual estimates of larval abundance, adult population size, and annual recruitment of juveniles.

We want you to count zebra mussels because your boatlift goes into water in the spring with no mussels on it - thus it serves as a great way to sample the number of new mussels that settle throughout the summer. It is important to now how many juveniles we have so that we can understand what the adult population might look like next year.
