The WBLCD has joined the Manitou Foundation and the Mahtomedi Lions Club to help fund this phase, completing the Grades 7-8 course curriculum this summer.
WBLCD continues its funding for water conservation awareness as a proud sponsor of the H2O for Life program: Race 2 Reduce. These educational enrichment platforms are an integral part of the Mahtomedi and White Bear Lake Area Schools course studies. By providing a $10,000 grant, we joined the Manitou Foundation ($15,000) and Mahtomedi Lions Club ($3,000) to help fund this phase, completing the Grades 7-8 course curriculum this summer. With this additional support, programming will cover K-12.
We applaud our local youth as they become change-makers who promote water conservation and environmental preservation. The K-6 curriculum is already embedded in the Mahtomedi and White Bear Lake school districts, and the high school modules highlight environmental classes. “SPLASH” tool kits provide water-related activities in the classroom and in after-school programs. Bravo to the high school volunteers who are assisting the staff with student after-school opportunities!
H2O provides a service learning opportunity for students to raise awareness about the global water crisis while taking action locally and partnering with local schools. The programs educate students about water resources, conservation, individual impact and being an advocate for change.
