Notice of Public Meeting re White Bear Lake Protective Elevation
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a public information meeting and listening session regarding the protective elevation for White Bear Lake in Ramsey and Washington counties.
The session will take place Thursday, June 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at Century College, 3300 Century Avenue, White Bear Lake. The location is the Century College Lincoln Mall, at the center of the East Campus building on the second floor.
The doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with an hour-long informal open house providing attendees a chance to talk with DNR staff and other stakeholders.
A formal presentation by the DNR will start at 6:30 p.m. The presentation will include an overview of the information and criteria the DNR considered in setting the protective elevation and a description of the additional analysis and coordination the DNR will do in implementing the protective elevation.
The DNR’s presentation will be followed by an open mic opportunity for public comments. If needed, based on the number of people wishing to speak, attendees may be asked to limit their comments to three minutes.
On December 21, 2016, the DNR announced that it set a protective elevation for White Bear Lake at 922 feet above sea level. This is an elevation that maintains a majority of recreational uses, while also supporting healthy fish and wildlife habitats.
Attendees at the June 8 session will have an opportunity to share their comments orally or in writing that evening. In addition, the DNR will accept written comments concerning the protective elevation through June 22. Written comments will be maintained in DNR’s records and will be used to inform our implementation of the protective elevation. A link to submit written comments electronically will be available on the DNR website from June 8 through June 22.
